On Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, the Stoomgemaal Halfweg will be running, and there are extra activities planned. Guide Han Maas will lead a technical tour at 10:30 AM on both days. During this tour, you’ll learn all about the workings of the steam engine and the steam boiler, which are over a hundred years old. On Sunday, August 2, at 1:30 PM, volunteer Ruud Wever will give a lecture titled “How Steam Once Won Over Electricity.” This lecture will into why, over a century ago, it was decided to purchase a steam engine again for the pump. It’s a unique chance to learn more about the history of steam power in the Netherlands.
