National Children's Theater Week: Knoei (3+) with Free Workshops

Why This Outing Matters Right Now in Haarlem

The National Children's Theater Week brings a touch of magic to Haarlem. On Saturday, October 17, the Verhalenhuis Haarlem will transform into a playground for our youngest. With the performance ‘Knoei’, kids can immerse themselves in a world of imagination and creativity. This isn’t just a chance for kids to enjoy theater. it’s an opportunity to actively participate in free workshops that encourage their imaginative spirit.

What to Expect

‘Knoei’ is a cheerful, almost wordless performance that revolves around the desire for messiness and wildness. The main character, determined to keep everything clean and tidy, embarks on an adventure filled with muddy creatures and stinky animals. Armed with a sponge, does she battle the dirt, or does she embrace it? After the show, toddlers and preschoolers can join workshops where they engage with the theme of animals, guided by a drama teacher. What sounds do different animals make? How does a scared rabbit or a lovesick goat move? Children are encouraged to play, move, and express their creativity.

Practical Tips

Make sure to arrive early, giving the kids time to prepare for both the performance and the workshops. The workshops start at 9:30 AM and 11:45 AM, with the performance at 10:30 AM. This allows you to explore the city before or after the event. Haarlem has beautiful walking routes, like the Secrets of Haarlem Self-Guided Scavenger Hunt & Walking Tour, which you can combine with the event. Remember, you need to reserve separately for both adults and children.

Explore More in Haarlem

After the performance and workshops, it's a great idea to further explore what Haarlem has to offer. From historic buildings to cozy cafés, the city has much to discover. For a unique experience, consider joining the Haarlem Self-Guided Detective Murder Mystery Game.
