Children's Book Week: The Elephant Who Kept His Word (4+)

Why this outing matters in Haarlem right now

Children's Book Week is always a celebration for the younger generation, and this year it’s even more special. With the performance 'The Elephant Who Kept His Word' at Verhalenhuis Haarlem, kids can immerse themselves in the magical world of Annie MG Schmidt. This is a unique chance not just to listen to a story, but also to actively participate in a musical drawing adventure. The combination of theater and art provides an experience that is both educational and fun.

What to expect

On Saturday, October 10th at 10:30 AM, the performance comes to life. The story revolves around bird Wok, who has been sitting in a tree for weeks brooding without any results. When the elephant decides to help her by sitting on the egg, an adventure filled with patience and surprises begins. This performance, directed by the talented Peter Faber, is a true spectacle for children. After the show, young visitors can join the Kleurfeest, where they will collaborate with other children and artists to create a large artwork.

Practical tips

Make sure to arrive early so you can soak in the atmosphere at Verhalenhuis. It’s a great idea to take a walk in the area before or after the performance. Verhalenhuis is centrally located in Haarlem, making it easy to enjoy the charming streets and cafes nearby. Don’t forget to reserve separately for both adults and children for the correct times.
