Embroidery Workshop: Stitch by Stitch, Family Stories
Discover family stories through needle and thread in this unique workshop.

Why This Workshop Matters
In Haarlem, it’s not just about the stunning architecture and rich history. It’s also about the stories of the people who call this city home. The embroidery workshop "Stitch by Stitch, Family Stories" on Friday, October 16, offers a chance to capture these stories creatively. It’s an opportunity to deepen your connection to your family history while crafting something beautiful.
What to Expect
During this workshop, siblings Peter and Marja van Hout will guide you in transforming family photos, documents, stories, and memories into textiles and embroidery works. Peter, trained at the Rietveld Academy, combines images with narratives, while Marja focuses on classical handcraft techniques. After an introduction and a brief visit to the exhibition "Houtveen: 1 Family, 4 Faces, from Borobudur to Bavo," you will start working in two groups. Marja will assist with stitching text, while Peter will teach you how to translate images into textiles. Don’t forget to bring a copy of a photo, letter, or document (maximum A4 size). Plenty of materials will be available, but feel free to bring your own as well.
